Chernyshyov

Arkady Chernyshyov was a Soviet ice hockey player and coach, football player, one of the founders of the Soviet ice hockey school, Honoured Master of Sports of the USSR (1948), Honoured Coach of the USSR (1957), Colonel. He was born in Nizhny Novgorod. His sister was Raisa Ivanovna Chernyshyova (1903-1984), Honoured Master of Sports of the USSR, Honoured Coach of the USSR (fencing). He was involved in sport from an early age, playing football, ball hockey and ice hockey. In his youth he worked at TsAGI (Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute) – in the workshop of M.V. Keldysh, who later became the President of the USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1936-1941 and 1945-1948 he played for the Dynamo clubs of Moscow and Minsk in the USSR football championships. He was one of the leading players of the “Dynamo” Moscow team in ball hockey and playing coach of the “Dynamo” Moscow team in ice hockey. A.I. Chernyshyov went down in history as the first who shot the first puck of the first USSR Ice Hockey Championship (1946/1947). An outstanding sportsman and player, he was the USSR football champion (1937, 1940), USSR ice hockey champion (1947) and five-time winner of the USSR Ice Hockey Cup (1937, 1938, 1940, 1941, 1948). Chernyshyov retired from professional football in 1948 and, in his spare time, he coached the Dynamo youth team until 1950. A.I. Chernyshov invited the best goalkeeper of the XX century, L.I. Yashin, to join his team. A.I. Chernyshyov holds the all-time record in Soviet hockey – from 1946 to 1974 he was the head coach of the Dynamo (Moscow) club for 28 years. There is a memorial plaque on the house where A.I. Chernyshev lived from 1942 to 1992.
