Maksim Vladimirovich Peskovoy served as the commander of the reconnaissance company in the 150th Motorized Rifle Division of the 8th Guards Combined Arms Army of the Southern Military District. He held the rank of Senior Lieutenant. He was born on October 7, 1995, in Tomsk in the family of an officer of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Peskovoy studied at Secondary School № 53 and, then, at Tomsk Cadet Corps from 2008 to 2013. In 2013, he began his service in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. In 2018, he graduated from Novosibirsk Higher Military Command School (1st Company of Cadets) and started his service in the 150th Motorized Rifle Idritsk-Berlinskaya Order of Kutuzov Division, stationed in Novocherkassk, the Rostov Region. From the first days of the special military operation in Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022, Senior Lieutenant Peskovoy actively participated in combat operations to defend the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics. On March 17, 2022, his reconnaissance group was ambushed. During the unequal battle, a grenade landed near the group. Without hesitation, Peskovoy shielded it with his body, sacrificing his own life to save his comrades. His group survived and completed their combat mission. By Presidential Decree on April 5, 2022, in recognition of his bravery and heroism, Senior Lieutenant Maksim Vladimirovich Peskovoy was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation. He was buried on April 7, 2022, at Bakhtinskoye Cemetery in Tomsk. The “Gold Star” medal was presented to his parents during the farewell ceremony by a representative of the Ministry of Defence of Russia. Peskovoy was also a first-class parachutist. In his honour, a bust was established at Novosibirsk Higher Military Command School in June 2022. His name was assigned to Tomsk Cadet Corps on June 28, 2022, and memorial plaques and commemorative signs were installed at the buildings of the cadet corps and Secondary School № 53 in Tomsk in September 2022.
