Monument to the «Military and Labour Feat of Mosenergo»

In Moscow, at the address of 16, Berezhkovskaya Embankment, there is a monument dedicated to the «Military and Labour Feat of Mosenergo». This monument commemorates the military and labour efforts of the Mosenergovites, who defended their country both on the front lines and in the home front. CHP-12 played a significant role in providing energy to Moscow during the Great Patriotic War. The station was commissioned on June 17, 1941, only a few days prior to the outbreak of war. When the front line reached the capital in October 1941, it was decided to disassemble and evacuate the key equipment of the station to Chelyabinsk and Kuibyshev (present-day Samara) in order to preserve energy capacity for the country. The vacant areas were promptly transformed for military purposes, with tank repairs and anti-tank barrier production (“hedgehog”) being organized there. These efforts played a crucial role in defending Moscow. In 1943-1944, due to the changing military situation, the installation of mobile power plants on railway platforms began at CHP-12. Four such power trains were built in total, and the first one was sent to liberated Stalingrad immediately after construction to help restore the city’s power supply. The staff of CHPP-12, working under difficult wartime conditions, made a significant contribution to both providing energy for the capital and assisting the liberated territories.
