Church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in Puchkovo

The Church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in Puchkov is located at Dorozhnaya St., 2, p. 1. The construction of a stone church in the village of Puchkovo began in 1792. On March 5, 1804, a chapel was consecrated in honor of Saints Zosima and Savvaty Solovetsky. Kazan Church belongs to a rare type of manor temples-tombs with a two-tiered altar and a chapel on the choirs. In the 1930s, the church was closed, and in the 1990s it was returned to the faithful. The feast of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God occupies an important place in the church calendar, emphasizing the importance of this image for the Orthodox world. Kings and generals prayed to this icon, liberated lands with it, developed Siberia and healed the sick. The icon was named “Kazan” after the place where it was found in Kazan in 1579. This happened after a massive fire that destroyed part of the city. The nine-year-old girl Matrona, the daughter of the Sagittarius Danila Onuchin, appeared to the Virgin, indicating the place where the image should be sought. Despite the initial distrust, after persistent requests from Matrona, excavations began, and the icon was found wrapped in cloth. The image, which was not damaged by the fire, was transferred to St. Nicholas Church, and the Bogoroditsky Maiden Monastery was built on the site of its acquisition. The icon immediately became famous as miraculous. A list was made from it, sent to Tsar Ivan the Terrible in Moscow, and subsequently the lists spread throughout Russia.
