Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Tolstopaltsevo

The Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Tolstopaltsevo is part of a temple complex located on the central square of this village. The complex includes two temples: a large one dedicated to the Resurrection of Christ, and a small one, consecrated in honor of the feast of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos. The Resurrection of Christ is the foundation of the Christian faith, the first and most important truth with which the apostles began their preaching. By His death on the Cross, the Savior cleansed mankind from sins, and by His resurrection He gave people eternal life, filling their hearts with joy, which reaches its peak on Easter. According to the Gospel, Christ died on the cross on Friday at about three o’clock in the afternoon. His body was taken down from the cross by Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, wrapped in a shroud and placed in a tomb carved into the rock. The cave was located near Golgotha and was sealed with a large stone. The next day, the high priests placed guards at the tomb, fearing that the disciples would steal the body of Jesus in order to announce His resurrection. However, unknowingly, they themselves prepared evidence of the miracle’s truth. On the third day, Sunday, the Lord rose again. The mystery of the resurrection is incomprehensible to the human mind, but according to the faith of the Church, the soul of Christ returned to His body, transforming it into incorruptible and spiritualized. The Savior himself came out of the tomb without breaking the seal, and an Angel of the Lord descended from heaven and rolled the stone away from the entrance, which horrified the Roman guards. Mary Magdalene and the other myrrh-bearing wives, unaware of the guards and the seal, came to the tomb in the morning to complete the burial rite. When they found it empty, they heard the good news from the Angel: “Christ is risen!” Mary Magdalene was the first to see the risen Lord, although at first she did not recognize Him. On the same day, Christ appeared to Peter, the two disciples on the way to Emmaus, and all the apostles who had gathered in fear of the Jews. A week later, the Lord appeared to the disciples again to dispel the doubts of the apostle Thomas, allowing him to touch His wounds. During the forty days after the resurrection, Christ appeared to the apostles more than once, instructing them. On the fortieth day, He ascended to heaven, promising the disciples the descent of the Holy Spirit. From that moment on, the apostles, strengthened by faith, began to preach the gospel throughout the world.
