Church of the Life-Giving Trinity (of Venerable Sergius of Radonezh)

The Church of the Life-Giving Trinity in Konkovo, whose name reveals the Christian understanding of God as the Creator and Giver of all life, has a deep history. The settlement with its manor has been known since the early 17th century, and a domestic church in the “Naryshkin Baroque” style was built between 1690 and 1694. Initially, its altars were dedicated to St. Sergius of Radonezh, the Deposition of the Robe of the Virgin, and St. Philip of Moscow. In 1772, the church became a parish church, and in 1808, a refectory and a second tier of the bell tower were added. In 1850, a rural school for the children of parishioners was opened at the church, later transformed into a zemstvo school. After its closure in 1939 and desecration-when the building housed a warehouse and a laboratory-services were resumed in April 1990. Over the years of restoration, the church was fully rebuilt: its unique white-stone carvings were recreated, the bell tower with a full set of bells was reconstructed, the interior was renovated, and the grounds were landscaped. A Memorial Cross with a stone slab in the shape of a book was installed on the grounds, engraved with the names of fallen soldiers from surrounding villages. Today, the church has a side altar dedicated to the Life-Giving Trinity, as well as side chapels dedicated to St. Sergius of Radonezh and the Deposition of the Robe of the Mother of God. A complex of parish buildings has also been constructed, including a Baptismal Church dedicated to the Theophany (Baptism) of the Lord. A significant milestone in its recent history was the establishment, in April 2021, of a Representation of the Metropolitanate of Chișinău and Moldova at the church, blessed by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill.
