The communist workers` battalion of the Moskvoretsky district of Moscow was formed in this building in 1941


The 3rd Moscow Communist Rifle Division was formed on October 13-16, 1941 from the volunteer communist battalions of Moscow. It was created by the district committees of the CPSU (b) of Moscow and formed into a division by the Military Council of the Moscow Military District. The division headquarters were located at school № 3 at the address: 6, Chapaevsky Lane. The fighters included scientists, Komsomol and Soviet executives, workers, students and female students, engineers and employees. 43% of the personnel had higher education, 80% had no military training and had not previously served in the Red Army. Of the 16,000 volunteers, 700 were women who became shooters, machine gunners, mortar fighters, snipers and medical workers. The command staff mainly consisted of volunteers. Cadre commanders were mostly only in the division management and partly in the regimental headquarters. The weapons were received from the warehouses of the Osoviakhim and factory guards. The material supply of food and uniforms was carried out by the district executive committees of Moscow. Each volunteer kept his salary at the place of his previous work. On October 28, 1941, Colonel A.I. Romashenko was appointed as the first commander of the division, who since the summer of 1941 commanded the construction of the 35th (Volokolamsk) fortified area on the Mozhaisk line of defence. On November 18, Colonel N.P. Anisimov became the division commander. The 1st Rifle Regiment included battalions of the Dzerzhinskiy, Zheleznodorozhniy, Kievskiy, Krasnopresnenskiy, Leningradskiy, Leninskiy, Moskvoretskiy, Oktyabrskiy, Sverdlovskiy, Sovetskiy, Taganskiy, Timiryazevskiy and Frunzenskiy districts of Moscow. The 2nd Rifle Regiment included battalions of the Baumanskiy, Kalininskiy, Kirovskiy, Kominternovskiy, Krasnogvardeyskiy, Kuibyshevskiy, Molotovskiy, Pervomaiskiy, Proletarskiy, Rostokinskiy, Sokolnicheskiy and Stalinskiy districts of Moscow.
