Church of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God in Troitsk

The first mention of the church of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God dates back to the end of the 17th century, when a wooden house church was built in the possession of the princes Repnin in the village of Bogorodskoye. Soon it was decided to expand the small temple by building a stone church. Most of the necessary materials were made and delivered from the famous Paphnutiev Monastery in Borovsk. Already in 1677, the main works were completed and the interior of the temple began. Nikifor Bovykin, a well-paid iconographer at the Armory, was invited from Moscow to paint the walls, known for his work in the Kremlin palace churches, the Assumption Cathedral, the Passion and Novodevichy monasteries. Unfortunately, the temple in its original form has not survived to the present day. In 1732, the village was sold to Vasily Borisovich Tolstoy, who built a new stone church instead of the dilapidated old one. In written sources of the 19th century, Tikhvin Temple is referred to as the parish church of Bogorodskoye-Vatutinki and Troitskoye villages. It is known that in the old days fairs were held in villages on patronal holidays. The church existed until the 1930s, but even earlier, in 1922, church valuables were seized from the church. The last rector of the church before its closure was the Holy Martyr Theodore (Grudakov). In 2004, he was glorified in the Cathedral of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia. His memory is celebrated on November 27, as well as on the day of the celebration of the Council of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia on February 7. A few years ago, an icon of the New Martyr Theodore appeared in the Tikhvin church. During the Soviet era, the temple was destroyed and rebuilt as an apartment building. In 1992, the community of the Tikhvin Church parish was organized and registered. The church building was transferred to the ownership of the Russian Orthodox Church. At that time it was a two-storey residential building that required major repairs. The area adjacent to the building consisted of randomly arranged front gardens and sheds with fences made of construction waste and various junk. It was only in 1994, after the eviction of the first residents and the liberation of the refectory, that liturgical life began in the church. In 1995, the city administration allocated land and helped to start building the fence. Then they began to examine the two-storey building of the former temple, the upper part of which was completely lost. I had to overcome great difficulties. It was possible to find the place where the western entrance was, then the remains of the bell tower foundation were discovered. In 1997, the altar and refectory parts of the temple were rebuilt, living quarters and a stone fence were erected, domes, crosses, bells were installed, ceramic floors were arranged. In 2007, the roof of the church was repaired, and the house of the clergy was completed, where the Sunday school, whose students had previously studied in the church itself, moved. Classes in the Sunday group are held in the following disciplines: for children – the Law of God, choir (for older children); for adults – the Law of God, a group of joint Gospel readings, and worship singing training.
