Сhurch of the Life-Giving Trinity in Vorontsovo

The term “Life-Giving Trinity” is connected with the perception of God as the Creator of the world, which in Christian understanding signifies the origin of all living things on earth, the giver of life. The word “life-giving” (живоначальный) originates from Church Slavonic, meaning “giving life” or “containing the beginning of life.” It refers to the Trinity – God in Three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. According to Orthodox teaching, the entire fullness of the Triune Nature participated in the creation of the world, meaning all life was created by the entire Trinity. The Church of the Life-Giving Trinity in Vorontsovo is an Orthodox church in the Obruchevsky District of Moscow, located on the grounds of Vorontsovsky Park and belonging to the Andreyevskoye Deanery. It is the oldest building in the Vorontsov estate complex, constructed in the mid-18th century. Initially, as restoration in the 1990s revealed, it likely served as a winter guest house, since the estate was a summer residence. The building has a shape characteristic of 18th-century park architecture, with an unusual rounded western wall where the main entrance is located. The building has been used as a parish church since 1807. In 1838, under the owner S.I. Mukanov, a bell tower and a side chapel were added, and a cemetery was established south of the church. After its closure in 1928, the bell tower was destroyed, the cemetery was obliterated, and by the 1980s, the church was in ruins. As a result of restoration work that began in the winter of 1990, the church was rebuilt, the bell tower and one of the walls were reconstructed, and services resumed on May 23, 1990.
