Church-Chapel of Blessed Matrona of Moscow

In Moscow’s Konkovo district, at 65 Profsoyuznaya Street, behind the modern Lotte business center, stands an unusual and deeply heartfelt wooden church-chapel consecrated in honor of Blessed Matrona of Moscow. It forms part of a temple complex and today serves as a venue for regular services for all those seeking silence and prayer away from noisy highways. The chapel’s story began in 2016, when the Moscow government transferred a plot of land to the Zaikonospassky Men’s Monastery. This decision was a direct result of the long-term efforts by the Slavic-Korean Orthodox Society, which has been successfully engaged in missionary and catechetical work among Russian-speaking Koreans since the early 2000s. This community became the soul of the future project. Construction of the church-chapel started in 2018, and since then, the Slavic-Korean community has gained its new home-away from the historic Spassky Cathedral of the Zaikonospassky Monastery, where their activities began. But the plans don’t end there. By the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill, a full-fledged Slavic-Korean spiritual and educational center with a house church in honor of St. Innocent of Moscow is planned for the same site in the future. The parish leads a vibrant life. At the church-chapel, a youth center, Sunday school for children, Korean language courses, and a society for spiritual and historical enlightenment operate successfully. Pilgrimage trips and cultural events are also regularly organized here. Thus, the small wooden church on Profsoyuznaya Street has become not just a place of prayer, but an important hub attracting all those interested in Russian-Korean Orthodox traditions and spiritual enlightenment.
