Church of Archangel Michael in Troparyovo

The village of Troparyovo was first mentioned in the Trinity Chronicle of 1338. In the 17th century, there was a wooden church of Archangel Michael, which was rebuilt twice, and in 1669 it was renovated for the last time. At the end of the 17th century, after a fire, a stone temple began to be erected in its place, the construction of which was completed in 1694. Funding was provided by the Novodevichy Monastery, which owned the village at that time. The architecture of the temple corresponds to the traditions of the Moscow pattern. The bell tower was probably built in the middle of the 17th century, before the main building. In 1694 the temple received an antimins, which indicated the beginning of divine services. During the Patriotic War of 1812, the church suffered minor damage during the retreat of Napoleon`s troops along the Starokaluzhskaya Road. By 1823, the building was restored. In 1939, the temple was closed, the fence was destroyed, and the interior was looted. The bells were discarded and not subsequently returned, with the exception of one. In the 1960s, the room was used by Mosfilm as a warehouse for decorations, and in the late 1970s, the facades were restored. After many years of petitions from the residents of Troparyovo and the support of Metropolitan Juvenal (Poyarkov) of Kolomna and Krutitsky, the church was transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church in 1988 in honour of the millennium of the Baptism of Rus. However, the transfer process was delayed, as the Moscow Art Combine was located in the building at that time. On February 23, 1989, the great consecration of the church took place, which was performed by Metropolitan Vladimir (Sabodan). It was the first church in Moscow to be returned to the Church after many years of persecution. In the following years, the temple grounds were landscaped. A house of clergy with a baptismal church in honour of the Origin of the Precious Trees of the Life-Giving Cross of the Lord and a library, a Sunday school, and a chapel in the name of St. Vitaly of Alexandria were built. On the east side there is a memorial sign with the names of the residents of the village of Troparyovo who died during the Great Patriotic War. The chapel of St. Vitali has been consecrated in the courtyard, where a memorial service is held after the morning service.
