Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin in Krylatskoye

The Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary has long attracted pilgrims with its special spiritual atmosphere. Despite the periods of desolation and persecution of the Church, today it has been restored and operates, preserving many shrines. At the beginning of the 20th century, archaeologists discovered ancient settlements with a necropolis of the XV-XVI centuries near the temple, as well as objects of material culture of the Bronze Age (about 2 thousand years BC). Chronicles indicate that in 1554 Ivan the Terrible himself came to consecrate it, staying in his patrimony – Kryletsky. Among the most revered shrines is the miraculous Rudn Icon of the Mother of God, which appeared in 1687 in the town of Rudn (Mogilev diocese). Two years later, she was moved to the Kiev Caves Convent, and then changed location several times, until in the 19th century. Peasants found her in the grass at the spring in Krylatskoye, going to mow hay. The icon depicts the Mother of God with a Baby holding a Blessing right hand, and crowns shone above them. In honor of this event, the locals built a chapel, and the icon itself became the patroness of Krylatsky. However, in 1936 The shrines of the temple and the chapel were destroyed. Today, the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary houses the revered list of the Rudn Icon, painted before the revolution to order for Mukhina Paraskeva Ivanovna, and then transferred to the temple in 1990 after restoration. The revived church in Krylatskoye was consecrated on March 16, 2014. By His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. A special place here is occupied by the holy spring, known since the time of Ivan the Terrible, from which water was supplied to the royal court. It is revered as miraculous, and its water, containing useful substances, is considered healing, attracting believers from all over the country.
