Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Kommunarka

The Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Kommunarka has a long and rich history. There is a village of the same name in the сentre of New Moscow. The history of this place before the construction of the temple and installation of the obelisk is unknown. During the Soviet era, these lands prospered. The village of Kommunarka was founded on the site of a state farm established in 1925 by Felix Dzerzhinsky. This state farm was one of the largest agricultural enterprises in the country with a well-developed infrastructure, including residential buildings, clubs, kindergartens, schools, and shops. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, life in this area declined. The state farm closed and many buildings were left abandoned. Nevertheless, the favorable location of the area contributed to its revitalization.. Since 2000, the active construction of residential buildings and infrastructure facilities began here, leading to the formation of the current appearance of the Community apartment. However, the new area lacked a spiritual center. The local authorities allocated a plot for the construction of a temple, and residents approached the dean of the Leninsky district requesting a priest. For over a year, parishioners worshipped in this location under the open sky, marking the beginning of the history of the Orthodox community and the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord. Official registration of the parish occurred in 2005. The name of the church symbolizes the changes occurring in the village and the lives of its residents. The history of the church continues to be written through the efforts of supporters, the administration, and the residents of Community apartment.. This important work, carried out for the glory of God, will become a legacy for future generations. The Church of the Transfiguration, located in the Ilyinsky deanery of the Moscow Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, continues to serve as a spiritual center for the residents of the village of Kommunarka. The Church of the Transfiguration was dedicated by His Holiness, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, and contains several revered icons, including the Kazan Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos, the icon of the Transfiguration from Mount Tabor, as well as icons of the Mother of God, St. Nicholas and St. Luke. Currently, the church also has a Sunday school for children.. The temple actively engages in social work at the City Clinical Hospital No. 40 in the village of Kommunarka. It also conducts missionary and youth activities, helping poor and large families in the area.
