Monument to A.S. Pushkin

In the northeastern part of Moscow, on the territory of Babushkinsky Park of Culture and Leisure (part of the Yauza Park recreational complex), a bronze sculpture of Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin is installed on the main alley. The address of the object: Losinoostrovsky District, 6 Menzhinskogo Street, Building 3. The nearest metro station is “Babushkinskaya,” from which the park is about 1.4 kilometers on foot. The monument is integrated into the park’s infrastructure: benches for visitors are located nearby, creating an intimate space for quiet rest and reflection. The history of the monument dates back to the mid-20th century. According to historical records, in 1955, when the park officially received the status of a culture and recreation park, the first sculpture of the poet was installed on its alley. The author of the original white stone statue was sculptor Apollon Manuilov. In the 1960s, this alley, according to established tradition, led to a reading room where literary meetings and evenings were regularly held, making the monument the semantic center of local cultural life. However, like many objects made of relatively soft white stone, the sculpture over time began to suffer from natural erosion and destruction under the influence of weather conditions. By the early 2020s, the condition of the monument required a radical solution. Instead of restoring the badly worn original, a decision was made to replace it with a durable alternative. The new version of the monument, cast in bronze, was officially unveiled on September 2, 2022, marking the latest stage in the biography of this memorial object. The bronze monument is a full-height figure of Alexander Pushkin. The poet is depicted in a characteristic pensive pose with his arms crossed over his chest. The artistic solution conveys a moment of deep lyrical or creative reflection, which corresponds to the image of Pushkin as a thinker established in culture. The sculpture is mounted on a cylindrical granite pedestal about one meter high, which visually separates the figure from ground level and gives it the necessary monumentality while maintaining a human scale. From a functional and cultural perspective, this monument performs several significant tasks. First of all, it serves as a permanent reminder of the creative legacy of the great Russian poet and his fundamental contribution to the development of national and world literature. Furthermore, as an integral part of Babushkinsky Park, the monument remains an important element of the cultural space of Losinoostrovsky District. Its location on the main alley of the park, historically associated with literary events, maintains the tradition of promoting literature among residents. Thus, the object contributes not only to preserving the memory of A.S. Pushkin but also to shaping local identity linked to respect for historical and cultural heritage.
