Alexander Naumovich Frumkin was a Soviet physicochemist, author of fundamental works in modern electrochemistry, the Director of the Institute of Electrochemistry of the USSR Academy of Sciences, the Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences. He was the Hero of Socialist Labour. He was the creator of the national school of electrochemistry and such a branch of science as electrochemical kinetics. His work has had a significant impact on the development and synthesis of new chemical current sources and fuel cells, on work in the field of organic semiconductors, radiation chemistry. He was a professor at the Chemical Faculty of Moscow State University since 1930. In 1933 he founded and headed the Department of Electrochemistry of Lomonosov Moscow State University. During the Great Patriotic War, he worked in the field of radiation chemistry and its military applications. Since 1942, he participated in the work of the Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee. In 1944, he was included in its presidium. He was involved in the work on the USSR atomic project, carried out a complex of scientific research in the field of the influence of radioactive radiation on the materials of an atomic reactor. In 1949 he was removed from the leadership in the midst of a campaign against cosmopolitanism. In 1958, he organized the Institute of Electrochemistry of the USSR Academy of Sciences on its basis, which he headed until the end of his life. In 1965 he founded the journal “Electrochemistry” and was its editor-in-chief. He was the founder of the tourism section of the Moscow House of Scientists and headed it for many years. He stayed at the origin of a series of collections of tourist routes “Tourist trails”. In 2000 International Society of Electrochemistry, together with Moscow State University and the Institute of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry named after A.N. Frumkin of the Russian Academy of Sciences established the Frumkin Memorial Medal. On the initiative of the Directorate of the Frumkin Institute of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences, formed in 2005 by joining the Frumkin Institute of Electrochemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences to the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the memorial cabinet of Academician Alexander Naumovich Frumkin was created. Visiting the cabinet is possible in groups, lists should be sent in a day if all visitors are citizens of the Russian Federation, and in a week if there are foreigners. Foreigners need a copy of their passport, but Russians do not need to do it. Coordinated visits are possible from 10:00 a.m. to 06:00 p.m.
