He was the Hero of Socialist Labour. He was the creator of the national school of electrochemistry and such a branch of science as electrochemical kinetics. His work has had a significant impact on the development and synthesis of new chemical current sources and fuel cells, on work in the field of organic semiconductors, radiation chemistry. He was a professor at the Chemical Faculty of Moscow State University since 1930. In 1933 he founded and headed the Department of Electrochemistry of Lomonosov Moscow State University. During the Great Patriotic War, he worked in the field of radiation chemistry and its military applications. Since 1942, he participated in the work of the Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee. In 2000 International Society of Electrochemistry, together with Moscow State University and the Institute of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry named after A.N. Frumkin of the Russian Academy of Sciences established the Frumkin Memorial Medal. On the initiative of the Directorate of the Frumkin Institute of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences, formed in 2005 by joining the Frumkin Institute of Electrochemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences to the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the memorial cabinet of Academician Alexander Naumovich Frumkin was created. Visiting the cabinet is possible in groups, lists should be sent in a day if all visitors are citizens of the Russian Federation, and in a week if there are foreigners.
