Monument to students, postgraduates, teachers and employees of the Moscow Institute of National Economy named after G.V. Plekhanov


The monument to the teachers, staff and students of the Moscow Institute of National Economy named after G.V. Plekhanov, who died during the Great Patriotic War, is an obelisk with the inscription: «Eternal glory to the students, graduate students, teachers and staff of the Moscow Institute of National Economy named after G.V. Plekhanov, who fell in the battles for freedom and independence of our socialist Motherland on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War in 1941-1945». They were part of the 17th Moscow Rifle Division of the People’s Militia of the Moskvoretskiy district. The division was formed on July 6, 1941 at the Moscow Institute of National Economy named after G.V. Plekhanov at the address: 28, Stremyanny Lane. Volunteers from the Moskvoretskiy and Sverdlovskiy districts of Moscow, as well as employees of the electromechanical plant named after Vladimir Ilyich, the Leather Association Factory, the Cotton Factory named after M.V. Frunze, the First Model Printing House, the Goznak factory, the M.I. Kalinin Worsted Spinning Factory, the Mazevskiy Furniture Factory, the Gazoapparat and Steklomashina factories, the Institute of National Economy named after G.V. Plekhanov joined the division. In total, more than 7,000 volunteers signed up for the People’s militia of the Moskvoretskiy district.
