Monument to students, postgraduates, teachers and employees of the Moscow Institute of National Economy named after G.V. Plekhanov
The monument to the teachers, staff and students of the Plekhanov Moscow Institute of National Economy, who died during the Great Patriotic War, is an obelisk with the inscription: «Eternal glory to the students, graduate students, teachers and staff of the Plekhanov Moscow Institute of National Economy, who fell in the battles for freedom and independence of our socialist Motherland on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War wars of 1941-1945». They were part of the 17th Moscow Rifle Division of the People’s Militia of the Moskvoretskiy district. The division was formed on July 6, 1941 at the Moscow Institute of National Economy named after G.V. Plekhanov at the address: Stremyanny Lane, 28. Volunteers from the Moskvoretskiy and Sverdlovskiy districts of Moscow, as well as employees of the electromechanical plant named after Vladimir Ilyich, Leather Association Factory, Cotton Factory named after M.V. Frunze, the First Model Printing House, the Goznak factory, the M.I. Kalinin Worsted Spinning Factory, the Mazevskiy Furniture Factory, the Gazoapparat and Steklomashina factories, Institute of National Economy named after G.V. Plekhanov. In total, more than 7,000 volunteers have signed up for the People’s militia of the Moskvoretskiy district.
