Ivan Semyonovich Polbin was a bomber pilot, participant in the battles on Khalkhin Gol and the Great Patriotic War, twice Hero of the Soviet Union. The squadron commander of the 150th Bomber Aviation Regiment since 1939, participated in the battles on the Khalkhin-Gol River. He made 19 combat sorties. Ivan Semyonovich Polbin fights on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War since July 1941. He commanded the 150th Bomber Aviation Regiment. He was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for his courage and military valor shown in battles with enemies on November 23, 1942. He made 157 sorties during the entire period of military operations. He died on February 11, 1945 in an air battle near Breslau (Poland). The monument to Ivan Semyonovich Polbin is a rectangular brick stele mounted on a concrete base. In the central part of the stele there is a portrait bas-relief of I.S. Polbin. His head is slightly turned to the left. The image is rigid in plastic, but gives a fairly complete idea of the portrait similarity. There is a memorial plaque made of white marble with a dedicatory inscription just below: «Twice Hero of the Soviet Union, Aviation Major General Ivan Semyonovich Polbin died a brave death for the freedom and independence of our Motherland on February 11, 1945 near the city of Wroclaw».
