Obelisk in memory of the workers of the Izmailovsky plant who went to the front in 1941-1945

At 16th Parkovaya Street, Building 2A, stands a monument perpetuating the memory of the workers of the Izmaylovo Decorative Horticulture Plant who gave their lives in the fight against fascism from 1941 to 1945. The history of this place is inextricably linked to the history of the enterprise, which made a significant contribution to sustaining life in Moscow during the war years. The Izmaylovo Decorative Horticulture Plant was founded in 1938 on the border of Moscow’s Stalinsky District and the Balashikha District of the Moscow Region. Initially, the enterprise specialized in growing flowers to decorate the city. With the beginning of the war, priorities changed, and the plant shifted its focus to producing vegetables, which were so necessary for maintaining the capital’s food security. According to archival data, during the Great Patriotic War, many of the plant’s employees were called up to serve in the Red Army. They fought on various fronts, displaying courage and heroism. Unfortunately, not all of them were destined to return home. To commemorate the feat of the workers who gave their lives for the Motherland, a memorial was erected on the enterprise’s grounds. The obelisk bears the engraved full names of the employees of the Izmaylovo Decorative Horticulture Plant who did not return from the war. Today, the Izmaylovo State Farm of Decorative Horticulture (the successor to the Izmaylovo Plant) is one of the largest producers of decorative plants for the landscaping of Moscow and one of Russia’s oldest urban flower-growing enterprises. The farm carefully preserves the memory of its heroes, passing it on to the younger generation of workers. The obelisk, located on the state farm’s territory, is part of the historical landscape and serves as a reminder of the home front workers’ contribution to the Victory.
