Church of the Life-Giving Trinity in Ostafyevo

The Church of the Life-Giving Trinity in Ostafievo is located at 46 Troitskaya Street. In 1751, collegiate assessor K.M. Matveev, known as an energetic industrialist who came from Tula peasants, acquired the village of Ostafevo and the village of Klimovo from the cornet of the Life Guards Cavalry Regiment Alexander Yakovlevich Golitsyn. The new owner immediately began to actively develop his possessions: he connected Ostafevo and Klimovo with a dam across the Lyubuch River and built a manor house. In 1758 Matveev founded a colorful and then a cloth factory in Ostafiev, which marked the beginning of the development of spinning and weaving production in the district. After Matveyev’s death, all his property passed to his wife Anisya. In 1778, she received permission to move the throne of the Great Martyr George from the old church of the village of Rezanovo, which belonged to her. By 1781, the construction of the new temple was completed, and the village of Ostafievo became known as the village of Ostafiev. At the request of Anisya Matveeva, Archbishop Platon of Moscow and Kaluga ordered the consecration of the newly built church “in the name of the Life-Giving Trinity and in the chapel of the Great Martyr George.” The consecration took place on July 1, 1782. Later, on December 19, 1991, the first Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the church, which was being restored after the destruction. It was led by Archpriest Alexander Ganaba, dean of the churches of the Podolsk district, in collaboration with the newly appointed rector of the church, Priest Mikhail Vasilenko.
