«Green Oak»

«At lukomorye, the green oak;
The golden chain around it:
Day and night, a cat is a scholar,
Everything revolves in a circle;
If it goes to the right, it starts a song,
And to the left, it tells a fairy tale»
This is how “Ruslan and Ludmila” begins – the first completed poem by Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin, a poetic fairy tale inspired by ancient Russian folklore and epics. In the park in Dekabristov Street in Otradnoye, next to house 11, there is a unique sculptural object called the “Green Oak from Pushkin’s Lukomorye”. This monument was unveiled in 2009 to commemorate the 210th anniversary of the birth of the great poet was celebrated with a vote among the students of Otradnoye schools. They chose this particular composition as a symbol of Russian folk tales that are familiar to every child. The sculpture group features the “Green Oak”, Mermaid, Knights, scientist’s Cat and Hut on chicken legs. It was created by unknown masters in the genre of naive art and made of concrete. Over the past decade, the sculpture has become tarnished and dilapidated. In 2020, a large-scale reconstruction was carried out for both the sculpture and the entire park in Dekabristov Street. The monument now stands as a miniature Lukomorye, featuring key characters from Pushkin’s works, such as the Oak Tree, Mermaid, Knights, Cat, and Hut.
