Damir Eduardovich Shaymardanov was a commander of a tank company in the 488th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 144th Guards Motorized Rifle Division of the 20th Guards Combined Arms Army of the Western Military District, a Senior Lieutenant, and posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation. He was born on August 2, 1998, in Yoshkar-Ola, the Republic of Mari El. He studied at secondary school № 29 and, after the ninth grade, transferred to Gymnasium № 4 in Yoshkar-Ola, finishing it in 2016. In 2016, he joined the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation as a cadet at Kazan Higher Tank Command School, named after the Red Banner and Order of Zhukov (located in the Republic of Tatarstan). After graduating from Kazan Higher Tank Command School in 2020, Shaymardanov served as a platoon commander, and since January 2022, he served as the commander of a tank company in the 488th Motorized Rifle Simferopol Red Banner Order of Suvorov Regiment named after Sergo Ordzhonikidze, stationed in the city of Klintsy, the Bryansk Region, as part of the 144th Guards Motorized Rifle Division of the 20th Guards Combined Arms Army. Since February 24, 2022, he participated in the special military operation to protect the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR). In mid-April, he fought in the Izium district of the Kharkov Region, where Ukrainian Armed Forces fiercely resisted the advance of Russian troops toward the city of Slavyansk (DPR). On April 30, 2022, during the battle for the liberation of the village of Dolgenkoye, Senior Lieutenant D.E. Shaymardanov led a column of Russian soldiers. At the forefront of the attack and while defending his comrades, he was heroically killed by enemy fire. By decree of the President of the Russian Federation on May 26, 2022, he was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation for his courage and heroism in fulfilling his military duty. On June 12, 2022, the awards were presented to the hero’s parents in Yoshkar-Ola at the Square of Military Glory. He was also awarded the Order of Courage (2022, posthumously). A bust of D.E. Shaymardanov was erected at the Kazan Tank Command School. In the city of Klintsy, the Bryansk Region, a stele was installed on the grounds of the military unit where the hero served. At Gymnasium №4 named after A.S. Pushkin in Yoshkar-Ola, where he studied, a commemorative plaque was installed. His name was given to secondary school № 29 in Yoshkar-Ola, where a memorial plaque was also placed on the school building.
