Dmitry Alexandrovich Farshinyov served as a Guards Private in the 11th Separate Guards Air Assault Brigade of the Airborne Troops and was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation. He was born on May 29, 2000, in Irkutsk. In his childhood, he and his family moved to Kyakhta in the Republic of Buryatia. After finishing Kyakhta Secondary School № 2 in 2017, he entered Buryat Republican Construction College to study as an electrical installer. Upon completing his studies in 2018, he was drafted into the army and assigned to the 11th Guards Air Assault Brigade, based in Ulan-Ude. Following his mandatory service, he chose to continue his military career on a contract basis. In 2019, Farshinyov was deployed with his unit to Syria to participate in operations against international terrorist groups. He was awarded the Medal for Strengthening Military Cooperation for his skill, initiative, and ability to assess situations promptly. With the onset of the special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Farshinyov took part in battles as part of his unit. During a combat operation on April 5, 2022, despite sustaining injuries, he continued to provide cover for his comrades, ensuring their safe withdrawal at the cost of his own life. In recognition of his bravery and heroism in fulfilling his military duty, the President of the Russian Federation posthumously gave D.A. Farshinyov the title of Hero of the Russian Federation in April, 2022. On May 21, 2022, his family received the “Gold Star” insignia in Ulan-Ude. In honour of the hero, a square was named after him in Kyakhta, where a bust was erected in May, 2023. A memorial plaque was opened on the building of Secondary School № 2, where he studied, in December, 2022, and a commemorative sign was unveiled in February, 2023.
