Denis Sergeevich Yagidarov was a Guards Major and the commander of the parachute battalion in the 31st Separate Guards Air Assault Brigade of the Airborne Troops. He was born on March 17, 1984, in the village of Mariyskaya Lisa in the Sanchursky District of the Kirov Region. After completing 9th grade at Sanchur School in 1999, he studied at Nizhny Novgorod Cadet Corps named after Hero of Russia I.V. Gurov from 1999 to 2001. Following an unsuccessful attempt to enter a military academy, he worked for a year as a Physical Education teacher at a school in the village of Bolshoy Ikhtial in the Sanchursky District. In 2002, he was drafted into the army and served in the 346th Separate Reconnaissance Battalion of the Internal Troops, stationed in the city of Blagodarny in the Stavropol Territory (Krai). He participated in numerous deployments to the North Caucasus for counter-terrorism operations. In 2004, he continued his service on a contract basis. In 2005, he entered Ryazan Higher Airborne Command School (RVVDKU) named after Army General V.F. Margelov, where he served as the deputy commander of a platoon in the 2nd company and graduated from it with honours in 2010. After graduating, he served in the 31st Separate Guards Air Assault Brigade, stationed in Ulyanovsk, holding positions as a platoon commander (2010–2013) and company commander (2013–2015). In 2014, he participated in the operation to return the Crimea to the Russian Federation. Since 2015, he held the position of chief of staff of the parachute battalion and became the battalion commander in 2019. He participated in the special military operation in the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics starting from February 24, 2022. He was killed in action on March 23, 2022, during a battle in the Izyum direction of the Kharkov Region. In recognition of his heroism and courage, the President of the Russian Federation posthumously awarded Major D.S. Yagidarov the title of Hero of the Russian Federation on April 18, 2022. The “Gold Star” medal was presented to his family on May 3, 2022, in the Column Hall of the Ulyanovsk Government by the Governor of Ulyanovsk Region A.Y. Russkikh. He was also awarded various departmental medals. In honour of the hero, a street in the village of Tonshaev in the Nizhny Novgorod Region was named after him, and a commemorative sign was placed on the building of Sanchur Secondary School in the Kirov Region.
