During the Great Patriotic War this building housed a hospital for wounded soldiers of the Soviet Army.

In this building, in 1942-1943, there was a central women’s sniper school which trained over 2,000 female snipers who heroically fought on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War.

There is a memorial plaque in memory of the location of the headquarters of the formation of the Guards mortar units “Katyusha”.

The monument in honor of the 85th Guards Mortar Regiment occupies the central place in Courage Square of the Izmailovsky PKiO.

Arkady Petrovich Mikhailovsky was the Admiral, commander of the nuclear submarine «K-178» of the Northern Fleet, captain of the 1st rank, Hero of the Soviet Union.
