Mikhail Ivanovich Ivanov was a Soviet military pilot, senior lieutenant, the Hero of the Soviet Union. He was in the army since March 1940. In 1941 he graduated from Borisoglebsk Military Aviation School of Pilots. Since August 1943, he took part in combat operations on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. By the end of March 1945, Senior Lieutenant Mikhail Ivanov commanded a unit of the 657th Assault Aviation Regiment of the 196th Assault Aviation Division of the 4th Assault Aviation Corps of the 4th Air Army of the 2nd Belorussian Front. By that time, he had made 100 sorties to attack and bombard clusters of military equipment and manpower. He also participated in the Rescue, Smolensk operations, Bobruisk, Minsk, Osovetsky, Mlava-Elbing, East Pomeranian and Berlin operations. By Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on August 18, 1945, Senior Lieutenant Mikhail Ivanov was awarded the high title of the Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal. During the war he made 96 sorties on an IL-2 attack aircraft to strike at enemy manpower and equipment. After the war, until April 1948, he continued to serve in the Air Force as a flight commander in assault aviation regiments (in the Northern Group of Troops, Poland). In 1948 he graduated from the Krasnodar Higher School of Navigators. In 1958, with the rank of major, Ivanov was discharged into the reserve. He lived in Moscow, worked as the chief of staff of the civil defence of the Kuntsevo district Food Court. He was also awarded two Orders of the Red Banner, two Orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, two Orders of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree, the Order of the Red Star, a number of medals.
