Alexander Fedorovich Avdeev was Soviet pilot, the Hero of the Soviet Union, deputy squadron commander, captain. Participant of the Great Patriotic War since June 1941. Deputy Squadron commander of the 153rd Fighter Aviation Regiment. He had made 189 successful combat sorties, shot down 7 enemy aircrafts in air battles by January 1942. Alexander Avdeev on August 12, 1942 rammed an enemy fighter over the village of Novaya Usman and died. His remains were discovered after the war, and he was buried in the village of Novaya Usman (in the square near the building of the former district executive committee). He was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on February 10, 1943. Also, he was awarded the Orders of Lenin, the Red Banner, and the Red Star. The bust, installed in 1965 in memory of A.F. Avdeev, is a bronze figure of the hero, depicted in a flight helmet, overalls, with a tablet on his side. The sculpture is mounted on a high four-sided pedestal. On the front eastern facade, a five-pointed star and the inscription «Alexander Avdeev. 1917-1942» is shown.
