Green Ring

The Green Ring is a 129 km long circular cycle route that connects Moscow’s green zones, metro stations, the MCC, and the MCD. The route will allow citizens to ride a bike on business, as well as relax in parks and visit the sights of the capital. There are five main types of cycling infrastructure on the route.
-Bike paths separated from the roadway.
-Bike paths where pedestrians and cyclists move side by side.
-Bike lanes where the area for cyclists is separated from the roadway by markings. -Bike zones where cyclists can move across the entire width of the roadway. Cars in bike zones can also drive, but their speed is limited to 20 km/h, and cyclists have priority.
-Zones of combined movement.
These are quiet streets where the speed of cars is limited to 30 km/h, and cyclists must ride on the right edge of the roadway. The direction of the route can be found by special signs with the “Green Ring” logo, as well as by navigation steles. Bicycles and electric bicycles “Velobike” can be rented on the route, so you can ride along the “Green Ring” even if you do not have your own bike. In addition, there are places for personal bicycles – there are more than 300 bike parks within a radius of 500 m from the route.
The Green Ring is a citywide route connecting 24 parks. For example, Muscovites can start at the Trade Union metro station, drive past Moscow State University, continue along the Moskva River through Fili Park, admire Stroginsky Bay, cross Timiryazevsky Park, VDNKh and Losiny Ostrov and reach the Golyanovo district. The route is designed so that cyclists encounter a minimum of difficult sections along the way, such as railway crossings and underpasses. The route also bypasses streets loaded with vehicles and pedestrians to ensure convenience and safety for all road users. The Green Ring is integrated into the city’s cycling infrastructure network. Moscow is the leader in the number of bike rides in the country. More than 4 million Muscovites have personal bicycles. Bicycles are used for three key purposes: as a means of transportation to get from one point to another; as a means of transportation for the delivery of orders by couriers and as a way of leisure and recreation. The Green Ring route is popular with the townspeople: more than 100 thousand trips are made along it every year.
